Investigators have “refused to rule out” whether two jewel thefts in Troon are linked after second home was targeted in a five-figure raid.
Thieves attacked a home in the Sarazen Drive area of the town between Friday, July 15 and Wednesday, July 20 days after similar items worth tens of thousands of pounds were taken from a house in Southwood Road.
Several items of jewellery were taken during the break in, amounting to more than £10,000.
Police Scotland said the probe into the theft was ongoing, but noted the circumstances around the two thefts were “very similar”.
Detective sergeant Craig Gilmour, South Ayrshire CID, said local patrols would be stepped up in the are to reassure residents while the investigation continued.
DS Gilmour added: “Our enquiries are ongoing at the moment and whilst at this time we cannot confirm this housebreaking and the one on Southwood Road recently are linked, we also cannot rule that possibility out as the circumstances are very similar.
“Again on this occasion, the thieves have broken into the house whilst the owners were away. We believe that the suspects know what they are looking for and it appears that valuable jewellery is what they want.
“I am again appealing to anyone, particularly drivers with dash-cam footage, who were in the area of Sarazen Drive or Bentinck Crescent over these days who may have seen any suspicious activity to get in touch with police.
“Please call officers via 101 quoting reference number 1717 of Wednesday, July 20, 2022 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
