Football games are being called off as the country faces life-threatening floods this weekend.

An amber weather warning for rain will remain in place until Sunday morning across much of central Scotland while most of the mainland – as well as Skye and the Inner Hebrides – have been issued a yellow warning.

Forecasters predict as much as three weeks’ worth of rain could fall as Scots are urged not to travel unless necessary.

The SPFL has confirmed a number of matches will be postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

Dundee’s Scottish Premiership match with Ross County has been cancelled while the Dunfermline Athletic v Arbroath match in the Championship is postponed.

Two League 2 games, including Bonnyrigg Rose v East Fife and Elgin City v Stenhousemuir, will also not go ahead this weekend.

ScotRail said most train services will face disruption on Saturday and Sunday while a number of major roads are closed due to landslides.
