A dog walker had his watch stolen after being attacked from behind in woods.

The 34-year-old victim was grabbed and then threatened with a weapon during the robbery in a wooded area near to Westhouses Road in the Mayfield area of Midlothian.

The robber – who had an older-sounding raspy voice and smelled strongly of alcohol – pounced at around 7.55pm on Tuesday.

As well as the timepiece, he also managed to steal a two-figure sum of cash before the victim managed to run away.

No one was injured in the incident.

Detective inspector Ben Leathes said: “We are asking for anyone who was in this area of Mayfield at the time and saw anything suspicious to come forward, as well as anyone with further information which may help us in our enquiries.”
