A young entrepreneur who battled depression is embarking on a 1500-mile cycling tour of Scotland to raise awareness of mental health.

Josh Quigley, who survived a suicide attempt in 2015, will kick off the event at his home town of Livingston on Friday afternoon.

The Tartan Explorer cycle will see Mr Quigley visit 29 Scottish towns and cities to host a series of mental health workshops, finishing at Edinburgh Castle on April 26.

The 23-year-old’s cycle tour is a warm-up to his World Cycle Challenge, which starts on May 26 - the first anniversary of his own suicide attempt.

Mr Quigley will cycle through six continents of the world, taking in more than 80 countries.

He said: "I decided to embark on this bike tour as I really want to inspire those who suffer with mental health issues and show that it is possible to bounce back and achieve something amazing.

"I want to take my message all over Scotland, where one in three people are affected by mental health issues each year.

"I then plan to take my message across the globe to get other nations speaking about mental health, uniting together to help save lives."
