Controlled explosions after 'suspicious vehicle' found in Westminster

A number of road closures are in place while emergency services deal with the incident.

Two controlled explosions were carried out by emergency services close to Westminster Abbey in London.

The area around the Abbey was locked down after police identified what they described as a suspicious vehicle.

Police swarmed the vicinity dealing with the incident closing off several roads.

City of Westminster Police said it was attending “an ongoing incident involving what is believed to be a suspicious vehicle” at around 4.30pm on Monday.

The incident was stood down at about 5pm, roads were reopened and the cordon was lifted.
