Scots soldier in court charged with murder of businessman in Canada

A Scottish soldier is to appear in court in Canada after being charged with the murder of a businessman.

Corporal Craig Gibson is accused of assaulting Brett Sheffield, 38, from Manitoba, at King Street West and Portland Street in Toronto at around 11.25pm local time on Monday August 28.

Sheffield was rushed to hospital in a critical condition but died as a result of his injuries two days later.

Gibson, 28, was arrested and charged with second degree murder.

He will appear via video link at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Toronto for a bail hearing at around 10am on Wednesday October 11.
