Sandwiches, wraps and pasta salads have been recalled from healthcare settings over fears they could cause meningitis.
Products from the Real Wrap Company – which are available from NHS sites outwith Scotland – are the subject of a Food Standards Agency (FSA) recall notice due to possible contamination with listeria monocytogenes.
The “do not eat” warning affects ready-to-eat foods sold at retail stores in health care settings with best before dates of June 9 and June 10.
Symptoms caused by the bacteria can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle aches or pain, chills, vomiting and diarrhoea.
In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications such as meningitis.
People over the age of 65, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and immunocompromised people are more vulnerable to listeria infections.
Customers are being urged not to eat the foods and return all affected products to the store in which they were purchased for a full refund.
