A man has been arrested after a car crashed into the gates outside Downing Street.
Armed police were seen running towards the scene of the incident involving a silver car at Whitehall shortly after 4.20pm on Thursday.
There are no reports of any injuries but the street remains cordoned off.
Officers from the Met said a man had been arrested in connection with dangerous driving.
“At around 4.20pm a car collided with the gates of Downing Street on Whitehall,” a statement read.
“Armed officers arrested a man at the scene on suspicion of criminal damage and dangerous driving.
“There are no reports of any injuries. Enquiries are ongoing.”
