A woman was taken to hospital after a fire was deliberately started outside a flat in Ayrshire.

Emergency services were alerted to the blaze outside a flat on Meagher Court, Cumnock, around 11am on Thursday.

A 38-year-old woman was taken to Ayr Hospital as a precaution, and was later discharged. The fire was extinguished successfully.

Police have now launched an inquiry.

Detective constable Christian Harrison, of Kilmarnock CID said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in Meagher Court or Townhead Street areas around the time of the incident who may have seen something or someone that looked a little suspicious to contact us.

“I’d also ask anyone with dash cams or doorbell recording equipment to check their footage as there could be images which could assist our ongoing enquiries.”
