A woman has been assaulted in the early hours of Sunday morning near an underpass in North Lanarkshire.

The 21-year-old was walking on Hill Road in Cumbernauld at around 5.25am when a man approached her from behind and knocked her to the ground. 

The woman was unhurt but left upset by the incident. 

Detective Constable Katy Goldie of Coatbridge CID said: “The woman was walking near to the underpass at Berry Hill Road when a man approached her from behind and knocked her to the ground.  She was unhurt but extremely upset by the incident.

“We are carrying out a review of CCTV and door to door enquiries in effort to identify the man.  He has been described as between 5ft 5 inches to 6ft tall, of thin build, with blonde/ginger hair and was wearing a light coloured baseball cap,

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time who witnessed the assault, or anyone who has information that will assist this investigation to contact us through 101 quoting reference number 0917 of Sunday July 18.  

“Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”
