A 77-year-old woman has died following a fire at a property in Cumbernauld.

Emergency services raced to the home on Pleamuir Place on Saturday morning but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Scotland said an investigation has been launched, but the fire is not believed to be suspicious. 

A force spokesperson said: “Around 11am on Saturday, 10 February, 2024, we were called to a report of a fire at a premises in the Pleamuir Place area of Cumbernauld.

“Emergency services attended and a 77-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The fire was put out by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. No one else was injured.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. However, there are no suspicious circumstances at this time.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 8.56am on Saturday to reports of a dwelling fire on Pleamuir Place in Cumbernauld on Saturday February 10.

“Operations control mobilised four fire appliances and crews worked tirelessly to make sure the area was safe at leaving the scene at 3.45pm.”
