A man has been filmed scaling a lamp post in Glasgow city centre to rescue a trapped seagull.
Jack Kelly was on a night out on Sauchiehall Street with colleagues when he was alerted to the bird in distress.
“My colleague jokingly said to go and save it, and I was like ‘yup no bother’,” the 21-year-old told STV News.
The chef said he was spurred on by a “few drinks” that had given him some “liquid courage”.
The rescue was captured by Iain Douglas, who works at Box Glasgow and runs a garden maintenance and tree surgery business.
The video shows Mr Kelly grabbing the lamp post and scaling it with ease, reaching the top and freeing the gull.
Mr Douglas said Mr Kelly returned to the ground before getting another drink in the bar.
He said that the lights the seagull become trapped in were “badly-designed”.
Mr Kelly told STV News: “I tried it with no shoes on first but just kept slipping down, so tried it again with shoes and managed
“I’ve not done anything like this in the past but nobody likes to see an animal in distress. I guess I did more mad things when I was younger.”
Glasgow City Council said it has had no reports of birds ever becoming trapped in the columns.
