Walker in hospital after falling 25ft onto rocks at Campsie Glen waterfall

A walker was taken to hospital after falling 25ft onto a rocky area near a waterfall in East Dunbartonshire.

Lomond Mountain Rescue joined Police Scotland, HM Coastguard and the Scottish Ambulance Service in assisting the man who fell at Campsie Glen near Lennoxtown at around 5.30pm on Wednesday.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after three special operations response teams (SORT), an ambulance and a critical care team were dispatched to the scene.

The rescue was said to be carried out “successfully” by volunteers.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.05pm on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, we received a report a man had fallen near to Campsie Waterfall, off the B822, Crown Road, Lennoxtown.

“Emergency services attended and a man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.”

A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 4.48pm to attend an incident at Campsie Waterfall near Lennoxtown.

“Three special operations response teams (SORT), an ambulance and a critical care team were dispatched to the scene.

“One patient was transported to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.”

Lomond MRT said: “At 5.37pm yesterday evening, Lomond MRT were called to assist the Scottish Ambulance Service following an accident at Campsie Glen where a casualty had fallen approximately 25ft onto a rocky area.

“Many thanks to colleagues from Strathclyde Police Mountain Rescue and HM Coastguard R199 who were also in attendance.”

A post on Facebook by Scottish Mountain Rescue added: “Lomond Mountain Rescue Team were called out yesterday evening, for a casualty who had fallen 25ft in Campsie Glen.

“Well done to the team, and everyone from Police Scotland Strathclyde MRT and HM Coastguard R199 who carried out this rescue successfully.

“We wish the casualty a quick recovery.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: “An HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter was sent to support the Scottish Ambulance Service respond to a man reported to have been injured in a fall at Campsie Glen on July 17.

“The alarm was raised at about 4.55pm. The man was taken to hospital by road.”
