Police are not treating the “unexplained” deaths of an elderly couple in Dumfries and Galloway as suspicious.

Officers were called to the Merse Way area of Kippford, near Dalbeattie on Wednesday, January 25 following concern from neighbours.

The bodies of a 77-year-old man and an 81-year-old woman were found within the house, sparking an initial enquiry.

However, officers say the incident is now no longer thought to be “suspicious” after their investigations.

A report is due to be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.20pm on Wednesday, January 25, police were called to an address in Merse Way, Kippford, near Dalbeattie where a 77-year-old man and an 81-year-old woman were found dead within.

“Their deaths are not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
