Two men charged after firearms and ammunition found in car

Police recovered a haul of weapons from a car in North Ayrshire on Tuesday.

Two men have been charged after a haul of weapons was found during a bust in Ayrshire.

Five firearms were recovered along with ammunition when police searched a car on Irvine Road, Largs, on Tuesday.

A 43-year-old was arrested at the scene after the Ford Mondeo was stopped as part of an intelligence led operation.

A 37-year-old was then arrested from an address in Stevenston in connection with the incident.

Both men have been charged with firearms offences and will appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Thursday.

Detective inspector Martin McGhee, of Police Scotland’s Specialist Crime Division, said: “Information from the public about alleged criminality can be vital and helps us protect communities.

“I would ask anyone who has information about the criminal use of firearms to contact us on 101. If you would prefer to remain anonymous, you can pass on information via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
