Tributes have been paid after the body of a missing doctor was discovered during a police search in East Dunbartonshire.
Sophie Johnston, 35, was reported missing from Partick at around 8.30am on Monday.
Police confirmed officers carrying out searches discovered a body in the Baldernock Crescent area of Milngavie at around 10.15am on Tuesday.
Dr Johnston’s family has been made aware of the discovery.
Friends and colleagues have taken to social media to pay tribute to her.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, family member Euan Wilkie said: “Thank you to everyone that shared our posts looking for Sophie.
“Unfortunately, Sophie was found dead this morning.
“We were all very lucky to have her in our family.”
Katie Gilbert, who said she had been friends with Dr Johnston in medical school, said her death was a “terrible loss”.
“I haven’t seen her since we were all at medical school, but her energy and sense of fun always made an impression.
“Terrible loss for her family, friends and colleagues. Thoughts with them all.”
Dr Johnston, who was registered under NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2009.
She had been registered as a family doctor since 2015 and had also ran dermatological and aesthetic medicine clinics in Glasgow’s West End.
A former colleague said: “Awful news. I worked with Sophie in covid care during the pandemic, she made a big difference to lots of people’s lives.
“Thinking of her loved ones.”
Another post read: “She was a wonderful person who will be sorely missed.”
