A thief caught stealing a £3000 bottle of cognac from a bar claimed to police he worked there.

Alexander Reid, 48, was arrested inside The Citizen in Glasgow city centre last October 22.

Prosecutor Mark Allan told Glasgow Sheriff Court: “He had made his way to the fridges and retrieved bottles of alcohol.

“This included Remy Martin Louis XIII Prestige Cognac – valued at £2950, two bottles of Dom Perignon champagne, a bottle of Moet as well as Belvedere vodka.”

Reid, who used a crowbar to get in, was soon spotted by police.

Mr Allan added: “He opened the door and briefly pretended he was a barman before he showed the officers the bag next to the door.

“This was full of the alcohol and he was arrested.”

On Thursday, Reid pleaded guilty to the break-in and will be sentenced next month.
