A teenager has been injured in a shooting incident at a gun club in Argyll and Bute.

The 19-year-old woman was airlifted to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment following the incident in the Tarbert area on Sunday.

Police said there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

The Scottish Sun, which first reported the incident, said it happened during a clay pigeon shooting event and was a “complete freak accident”.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.35pm on Sunday, December 3 2023, police received a report of a 19-year-old woman being injured by a firearm at a gun club in the Tarbert area.

“The woman was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment and enquiries into the incident area ongoing.

“There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call on December 3 2023 to attend an incident in Tarbert.

“An ambulance and air ambulance with trauma team were dispatched to the scene and one patient was transported by air to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.”
