A man has been left in a serious condition in hospital following an alleged attack outside a soup kitchen in Glasgow City Centre.

The 22-year-old remains under observation at Glasgow Royal Infirmary after the incident on Argyle Street on Saturday evening.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene at the Hielanman’s Umbrella at around 8.40pm.

An 18-year-old has since been arrested and charged and is expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 8.40pm on Saturday, November 19, to a report of a serious assault in Argyle Street, Glasgow.

“A 22-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment where his condition is described as serious but stable.

“An 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident and is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, November 21.”

They added: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
