A teenager has appeared in court charged with the alleged murder of a man outside a Greenock primary school.

Michael Beaton was found seriously injured on Drumfrochar Road near St Patrick’s Primary at around 7.20pm on Sunday, November 26.

The 35-year-old was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where he died a few hours later.

On Friday, April 5, police confirmed a 19-year-old man had been arrested and charged in connection with the death.

Richard Mullan, of Greenock, appeared at the town’s Sheriff Court on Friday charged with attempted murder, murder and attempt to defeat the ends of justice.

He made no plea or declaration and was committed for further examination and remanded in custody.

He will appear in court again within the next eight days.
