A teenage girl has died in a two-car crash near the Gartcosh Junction in Lanarkshire.
The 16-year-old was rushed to hospital following the collision on the M73 northbound shortly after 1.30pm on Saturday afternoon.
A 62-year-old man, driving the car in which the girl was a passenger in the rear seat, was also taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
However, the teenager later died from her injuries.
A 42-year-old man, who was driving the other vehicle, was unhurt but was later arrested in connection with road traffic offences.
He has since been released pending further enquiries.
The road was closed for around seven hours while crash investigations were carried out and reopened around 8.40pm.
Officers are now appealing for anyone who saw what happened or has dash cam footage of the area at the time to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 1665 of January 28.
