A 17-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of John Winters.

A teenager has been charged after a man died following a disturbance in a town centre.

Emergency services were called to Johnstone’s High Street at around 8.30pm on Wednesday night.

John Winters, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 17-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.

Throughout Thursday, the Renfrewshire road remained closed for investigation works.

On Friday, Police Scotland confirmed the teenager had now been charged and is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court.

A force spokesperson said: “A 17-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of a 26-year-old man.

“On Wednesday, April 1, police received a report of a disturbance in High Street, Johnstone.  

“Officers attended and a 26-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.  

“He can be named as John Winters from Johnstone.

“The 17-year-old man is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Friday.  

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
