A teenager has been arrested and charged after a man was left scarred for life following an attack at Kilmarnock bus station.

The 19-year-old man was seriously injured when the group he was with became involved in an incident with another “unknown group of people”, police said.

The disturbance at around 10.20pm on Saturday, October 9, happened within the town’s Green Street station.

The teen was taken to Crosshouse Hospital where he was treated for his serious but non-life threatening injuries.

On Monday, police confirmed a 16-year-old had been arrested and charged in connection with the incident and that enquires were ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said:  “A 16-year-old male youth has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. He has been released on an undertaking to appear at court at a later date. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

“Enquiries into the incident are continuing.
