A man has been taken to hospital with serious head injuries following a “targeted” machete attack in Lanarkshire.
The 31-year-old was approached by an armed man in Rhyber Avenue, Lanark, at around 8.35pm on Thursday.
The attacker seriously injured the victim during the assault before vandalising the windows of a house on the same street along with three other men.
The group then fled the scene in a dark-coloured car.
The victim was rushed by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for serious head injuries and his condition has been described by hospital staff as “stable”.
Investigating officers believe that the victim was specifically targeted by his attacker, however his motive is yet to be established.
They are now appealing for witnesses who may have more information.
Detective sergeant Jim Williamson, Wishaw CID, said: “Whilst the motive for this attack has still to be established, we believe that the man, for whatever reason, was specifically targeted.
“At this time we have no description of the suspects.
“Rhyber Avenue is residential and I am sure that people would have seen, or at least heard the attack take place.
“If you have any information about the incident, then please contact police at Wishaw via 101 quoting reference number 3333 of Thursday, 9 June, 2022.
“Alternatively, details can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.“
