A controlled explosion has been carried out on what is suspected to be an unexploded Second World War bomb in West Dunbartonshire.

Police were alerted to the device in the Kilpatrick Hills near Clydebank at about 5pm on Wednesday.

Police set up a cordon and at around 9.30pm a Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal team attended.

A controlled explosion of the device was then carried out.

Chief inspector Scott Carlin, area commander, said “We would like to thank the member of the public who reported finding this device and encourage anyone who finds any similar suspicious items to call the police immediately.”
