A suspect has been charged after a woman was assaulted and man seriously injured on a train platform in North Lanarkshire.
Emergency services were called to the scene at Bellshill railway station around 11.37pm on Saturday following reports that a man had assaulted a woman on a platform.
A member of the public intervened and as a result, was seriously assaulted. He was taken to hospital with a head injury following the incident.
British Transport Police have now confirmed that a 34-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection to the incident.
He is due to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Thursday.
