A sixth man has been arrested in connection with the doorstep shooting of a man in Greenock.
Mr Canney, 37, died after being found seriously injured on the doorstep of his home on Nairn Road around 1.15am on Tuesday, February 28.
Police confirmed on Wednesday that a 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death.
He was rushed by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he died a short time later.
Five men, aged 22, 23, 27, 28 and 38, have already appeared at Greenock Sheriff Court in connection to the incident.
Martin McCusker, 38, faced Greenock Sheriff Court on March 9 where he made no plea to the single charge of murdering Mr Canney.
On March 6, Jack Benson, 22, from Port Glasgow in Inverclyde, and Dale Russell, 28, from Wishaw, entered no plea at a short petition hearing and were remanded in custody.
A fourth man aged 27 was also previously arrested and charged in connection with Mr Canney’s death.
On March 21, Brendan Balloch appeared at Greenock Sheriff Court on Tuesday where a single murder charge was put to him. He made no plea and was remanded in custody.
