Singer’s clever Covid-19 tune helps raise funds for NHS staff

Lauren O'Donoghue, from Inverclyde, penned lyrics which take a wry look at life on coronavirus lockdown.

A Scots musician has penned a clever song about the coronavirus outbreak in a bid to raise money for frontline health workers.

Lauren O’Donoghue’s lyrics which take a wry look at life during social distancing restrictions was performed to the tune of Dexys Midnight Runners’ smash hit Come On Eileen.

The song is part of a wider set of online gigs she is running with other local musicians to raise funds to help buy equipment for NHS workers.

The Inverclyde singer told STV News: “My bandmate and I have set up a local live group on Facebook for musicians to to raise money for our local NHS services and this was part of the drive.

“I wanted to write a song to hopefully lift some spirits and keep morale going.”

She added: “I’ve had an amazing response with the song already, with instagram and Facebook combined it’s been viewed nearly 100,000 times already, which is incredible!”
