A man required surgery following a serious assault in Ayrshire on Saturday.

Police are hunting for two men following the attack on Main Street in Prestwick and are considering whether it was “targeted”.

The 20-year-old victim was with a group of friends near the junction with Kyle Street at around 10.30pm on July 16 when an altercation with the two men unknown to them broke out.

The injured man was taken to University Hospital Ayr and later required surgery.

Police said that the incident appears to have been “isolated”.

The first is described as 30 to 40 years old, around 6ft 1in tall, of stocky build and bald. He was wearing a black t-shirt and jeans.

The second man is described as 20 to 30 years old, 5ft 9in tall, of heavy build with short dark hair. He was wearing a blue t-shirt and shorts.

Anyone who thinks they may have seen these men in the area around that time or who has any information or dashcam footage of what happened is urged to contact police.
