A second person has been arrested over an incident in South Lanarkshire that allegedly saw a car crash into a police vehicle and officers threatened with a bladed weapon.

Police Scotland said officers attempted to stop a car on Church Street at St Andrew’s Court in Blantyre during a routine patrol at around 7.30pm on Wednesday.

The car then collided with a Police Scotland vehicle.

A male passenger is said to have left the vehicle before threatening officers with a bladed weapon and making off.

There are no reported injuries and there is not believed to be any risk to the wider public.

On Saturday, Police Scotland announced they had charged a 22-year-old man over the incident.

He will appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court at a later date.

Officers had arrested the 34-year-old female driver of the car in connection with road traffic offences on Wednesday after she was traced nearby.

She was due to appear before Hamilton Sheriff Court on Saturday.
