A pensioner with early-stage dementia who failed to return home after a church social in East Dunbartonshire has been found “safe and well”.

Jeanette MacRae, 75, was reported missing after failing to make it back to Bishopbriggs from an event in Kirkintilloch on Wednesday night.

Her family believed she may have taken the wrong route driving home, got confused and was then unable to find her way back.

Police launched a search and appealed for the public’s help.

Shortly before 2pm on Thursday, the force announced the pensioner had been traced.

A spokesperson said: “Police Scotland can confirm that Jeanette MacRae, 75, reported missing from Kirkintilloch, has been found safe and well.

“Thank you to everyone who assisted with our appeal.”
