Scottish wrestlers on WWE’s roster say Clash at the Castle – the first premium live event to ever be held in Scotland – will make history.

The US sports entertainment giant is bringing a premium live event to Scotland for the first time ever.

Clash at the Castle on Saturday night follows Friday Night SmackDown at the OVO Hydro with Scottish names such as Drew McIntyre, Piper Niven, Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre all fighting to be champions.

McIntyre will face Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship in the main event of the show that follows on from the inaugural Clash at the Castle in Cardiff in 2022.

The Ayr-born grappler was the first WWE Champion from the UK, while Piper Niven enters the squared circle looking to capture the WWE Women’s Championship.

She told STV News: “Everyone in Scotland that comes to the show, or has ever had anything to do with wrestling should be so proud of themselves.

“We wouldn’t be having this event if not for the Scottish boom period in wrestling.

“If it wasn’t for Drew going overseas and making it in America, we wouldn’t have thought it was possible.

“We’ve all worked hard to put on great shows, going from strength to strength and now we have our own event.

“I don’t think it is too absurd to say the UK could have a Wrestlemania.”

The star from Kilbirnie said nothing would make her happier than for the live crowd to chant her name.

She added: “Get the chants going. Get your pipes out for Piper.”

Clash at the Castle will be live from Glasgow's OVO Hydro on Saturday night.

Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn, a tag team from Paisley and Glasgow, will challenge for the Women’s Tag Team Championships on Saturday.

Isla said: “All of the Scottish talent right across the board have been putting in the work – we’ve been fighting for this event to happen.

“This is my first time performing in the Hydro, most of my Glasgow wrestling shows were at community halls – so this is the big one.”

Alba said: “I do believe the fans deserve this.

“I’ve always said the Scottish fans are some of the best in the world, if not the best and they’re going to show it tonight and tomorrow.”

Kelly-Ann vs Drew: An STV Smackdown

After 17 years, STV News at Six co-anchor Kelly-Ann Woodland has finally had a rematch with WWE legend Drew McIntyre.

The presenter famously interviewed the Scottish wrestler almost two decades ago, with the interview coming to a close with the star picking up the presenter – much to her shock.

After a bit of fighting talk, the pair sat down in the ring to discuss the upcoming weekend of wrestling mania in the city – with Drew adding he will also have his eye on the football as Scotland head to the Euros.

Drew told Kelly-Ann: “I’m so full of adrenaline right now, being back home. Not just being back home, but getting to catch up with yourself after 17 years and the fact we’ve got the first ever Scottish WWE PLE is mental.

“The fact that we’re in Scotland and I’m in the main event fighting for the title, is just unreal and this is me setting the challenge right now. Scotland, we need you to come out – I’ve been telling everybody about the wildest, craziest people on earth, the most passionate people on earth, this Friday at Smackdown and Saturday Clash at the Castle, you’ve got to break the sound barrier for me.

“We’re going to show the entire world nobody is more mental than us.”

Friday Night SmackDown airs live from the Hydro Glasgow, Friday June 14, tune in on TNT Sports.
