Police Scotland have denied rumours of an attempted abduction of a child from a playpark in Renfrewshire.

Officers investigated after rumours began to circulate over a bid to snatch a child from a play park in Lomond Gardens, Elderslie, on July 21.

The force carried out extensive enquiries before reaching the conclusion that no attempted abduction took place.

It follows reports a man had attempted to abduct a child, but was thwarted by the child’s parents who “went running over in time”.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We are aware or rumours circulating regarding the attempted abduction of a child from within a play park at Lomond Gardens, Elderslie on Thursday, July 21.

“Officers have carried out enquiries and have established no attempted abduction took place. If anyone has any concerns, they should contact Police Scotland on 101 or speak with your local officers.”
