A Rangers supporter who repeatedly threw items at police during a fan title party has been banned from football matches for five years.

Ewan McAlpine, 23, chucked the missiles at Glasgow city centre’s George Square on May 15, 2021.

Thousands of jubilant Gers fans gathered to celebrate the club winning the Scottish Premiership.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that McAlpine was snared following a police operation.

Prosecutor Jessica McGowan said: “Pictures of McAlpine were submitted to police and CCTV inquiries identified him.

“He threw unknown items repeatedly at police.”

CCTV was shown to the court where McAlpine – in a blue Rangers top – was seen to throw unseen items on a number of occasions before going out of view.

He was invited to attend a police station on July 12, 2021 which he did.

McAlpine, of Dumbarton, West Dunbartonshire, pled guilty to culpable and reckless conduct.

Sheriff John McCormick ordered McAlpine to do 280 hours of unpaid work as well as the football ban.

He was also tagged for 19 weeks keeping him indoors between 7pm and 7am.

McAlpine will be under the supervision of a social worker for one year.
