Warning issued as car stolen after being left running to defrost windows

The theft in Bearsden on Tuesday comes after temperatures plummeted across Scotland.

Police have issued a warning after a car was stolen in East Dunbartonshire after being left unattended while defrosting.

The car was stolen in Bearsden while being left to defrost at around 7.20am on Tuesday.

Officers have issued a warning to car owners following the theft, revealing they found seven vehicles left unattended outside homes.

They also warned that insurers will not pay out if vehicles are stolen in this manner.

It comes after temperatures plunged across Scotland this week, with weather warnings issued.

A spokesperson said: “Defrosting your vehicle? Never leave it unattended! We have seen the first “Frosting” car theft in Bearsden.

“Many insurers will not pay claims should a vehicle be stolen in this way. This morning (November 29) officers found seven vehicles running unattended outside homes.”
