Police launched a search for a man who was filmed cycling on a busy motorway in Glasgow with what appeared to be a bag of shopping from Asda.
Officers were called to the M8 near junction 14 at around 3.15pm on Sunday, after a receiving reports of a man cycling among traffic.
Footage of the incident went viral on social media, which appeared to show the man cycling in between the five-lane section of the motorway wearing jeans and a puffer jacket – with no helmet.
The man also appeared to have an Asda shopping bag hanging over the bike’s handlebars.
It is against the law for motorways to be used by cyclists as well as pedestrians, powered wheelchairs, mobility scooters and horse riders.
The M8, which has been billed as “the busiest motorway in Scotland”, connects Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Police confirmed they launched a search for the cyclist but he could not be traced.
A police spokesperson said: “We received a report of a man cycling eastbound on the M8 near junction 14 at around 3.15pm.
“Officers attended but there was no trace.”
