Police are investigating after a nursery in North Lanarkshire was targeted by vandals.

Bellshill Nursery at the town’s David Anderson centre on Dean Street, was vandalised either late on Thursday night or the early hours of Friday.

The outside play area was wrecked with plant pots broken and fences knocked over.

The damage was found on Friday morning.

Officers are now appealing for information to the incident that they have branded as “shocking” and “unacceptable”.

Posting on the Lanarkshire Police Division Twitter account they said: “Shocking vandalism at Bellshill Nursery Centre.

“Let’s come together to show this behaviour is unacceptable and support our community spaces. If you have any information regarding this contact the police on 101.”

And a spokeswoman for the force said: “Local officers are continuing their enquires into this incident and appealing for any information. “
