Up to a dozen people were involved in an incident that left a 22-year-old man seriously injured in Greenock.
Police were called at around 11.20pm on Thursday on Dorset Road in the town, near the junction with Oxford Road.
A man was left with serious injuries to his head and body following a disturbance involving a number of men.
The victim was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition. Police are treating the incident as attempted murder.
Investigations into the incident remain ongoing and officers are searching for a man who was wearing a blue hooded top last seen running in the direction of Auchmead Road.
Detective inspector Gordon Smith said: “Police remain around Oxford Road and are asking residents and visitors for any information they may have about this incident.
“We are still piecing together details of what took place.
“We are aware that up to a dozen males were involved in the disorder, but are particularly keen to trace one man who was seen in the area any may be able to assist with our enquiries.
“He is described as wearing a blue hooded top and was running on Auchmead Road.
“As ever, we rely on the assistance of our local communities and residents should have confidence that we will treat any information confidentially.”
