Police are probing fresh claims Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths sent “inappropriate messages” to a second girl on social media.
The Hoops star was sent home from Celtic’s pre-season training base in Wales earlier this week as the club launched an investigation into allegations that he sent private messages to a 15-year-old girl online.
At the time, Police Scotland said it had been made aware of the content and was “making inquiries and assessing for criminality”.
On Saturday, the force confirmed it had been alerted to further content shared online linked to another girl.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We are aware of the social media content and the matter is currently being assessed.”
Griffiths did not feature in Ange Postecoglou’s first friendly game in charge of the club as Celtic beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 in Newport on Wednesday afternoon.
Following the initial allegation, a Celtic spokesperson said: “We have been made aware of online comments concerning Leigh Griffiths. The club will now look into this matter carefully.
“Leigh has left the training camp as we do this.
“It would not be appropriate to make any further comment at this time.”
