A tourist has captured a photo of a seal appearing to howl with laughter in Argyll.

The mammal was snapped lounging on rocks by Cathy Cochrane, who enjoys photography as a hobby.

Ms Cochrane has a holiday home just metres from the beach at Machrihanish.

She said: “I spent quite a while just sitting watching this beautiful seal.

”I am sure he was laughing his head off at the mad woman out so early with a camera taking pictures, but he obliged with a few wonderful poses.

“Just down from the house there’s a sea bird and wildlife observatory so I’d been visiting there after sunrise.

“Then two seals appeared and got themselves up on to the rock, enjoying the sunshine.

“One of the seals started stretching his body out and he was giving me a lot of eye contact so he wasn’t at all bothered that I was sat opposite him.

“I was clicking away but it wasn’t until I got home and studied the photos a little closer on my laptop that I saw the facial expressions he was giving me.”
