A person has died after being hit by a train between railway stations.
The incident happened near Hillington East railway station at around 12:30pm on Tuesday.
British Transport Police were alerted, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
ScotRail advised passengers that services between Glasgow Central and Ayr, Largs, and Ardrossan Harbour, Gourock, and Wemyss Bay had been cancelled, delayed or revised following the incident.
A ScotRail spokesperson said: “Services in the Ayrshire and Inverclyde area have been subject to delay and alterations this afternoon.
“Sadly, this is due to a person being struck by a train.
“Anyone affected by this incident can contact Samaritans for free of charge, any time, from any phone, on 116 123.”
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “British Transport Police were called to Hillington East railway station at 12.30pm today (1 February) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Officers and paramedics are in attendance.
“Sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene.
“This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the procurator fiscal.”
