A pensioner has died and a woman has been arrested after a car hit two pedestrians on a busy road in South Lanarkshire.
Police were called to reports of the crash, which involved two pedestrians and a car, off Lesmahagow Road, Strathaven at around 7pm on Tuesday, January 3.
A 78-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene while another 67-year-old man was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Wishaw.
A 61-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are currently ongoing.
The road was closed for several hours into Wednesday, January 4.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called to a report of a crash involving two pedestrians and a car off Lesmahagow Road, Strathaven around 7pm on Tuesday, 3 January, 2023.
“A 78-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. A 67-year-old man was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Wishaw.
“A 61-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing.”
