A pensioner has died after being struck by a car in South Lanarkshire.
Emergency services shut down the B7071 at Belmont Avenue, in Uddingston, for around five hours after a male pedestrian was hit by a vehicle around 11am on Wednesday.
A 79-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police confirmed that a 28-year-old man had been arrested in connection with road traffic offences.
He has since been released pending further enquiries.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police received report of a crash involving a car and a pedestrian on the B7071 Glasgow Road at Belmont Avenue, Uddingston, around 11am on Wednesday, May 17, 2023.
“Emergency services attended, however the 79-year-old male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
“A 28-year-old man was arrested in connection with road traffic offences and released pending further enquiries.
“The road was reopened around 4.20pm and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash.”
