A pensioner has been taken to hospital following a two-car crash in Dumfriesshire on Wednesday.

At around 1.45pm on January 4, police were called to the incident on Drumlanrig Street in Thornhill which involved a red Honda Jazz and a silver Ford Mondeo.

The Honda subsequently collided with a traffic island before coming to a stop.

A 72-year-old woman, the driver of the Honda Jazz, was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary while the driver of the Ford Mondeo was not injured.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances and officers are appealing for witnesses.

Constable Stuart Delaney said: “I would like to appeal for anyone who saw what happened or saw either of the cars before the crash to get in touch with us. Also, anyone with dash cam footage of the Drumlanrig Street area around 1.45pm on Wednesday, please review this and bring anything you think may be significant to our attention.”
