A pensioner is fighting for life after being mowed down by car as it ploughed through a shop window in South Ayrshire.
The 86-year-old woman had been walking on the pavement in Main Street, Prestwick around 12.40pm on Saturday before she was struck by the vehicle.
The car hit several parked cars before mounting the pavement, it then hit the victim and crashed through the front of Savers.
Emergency crews were called and the woman was taken to Crosshouse Hospital where she remains in a critical condition.
The 74-year-old male driver of the car was uninjured but officers said he has been “left badly shaken” after the incident.
The road was closed allowing crash scene investigators to carry out enquiries.
Sergeant Chris Hoggans, from Road Policing, said: “Main Street was pretty busy on Saturday afternoon and I am appealing to members of the public, who were in the area around the time of the incident, to contact us with any information.
“It’s vital we have all the facts so we can continue to piece together the full circumstances of what has happened.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland at 101, quoting incident number 1650 of May 28, 2022.
