Pensioner among two taken to hospital following collision

A man and a woman have been taken to hospital following a morning collision in East Kilbride.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the two car crash on the A749, at the junction with Cairnmuir Road, at around 9.30am on Friday.

The driver of a black Volkswagen Polo, an 81-year-old woman, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with serious injuries.

Her current condition is unknown.

A 23-year-old male was taken to Hairmyres Hospital with minor injuries, and was later discharged.

The road was shut while police investigations took place and later reopened at around 6.30pm.

Sergeant Craig McDonald said: “Our enquiries into the crash are ongoing and I would urge anyone with information to come forward.

“We would be particularly keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash who have not yet spoken to the police or who may have dashcam footage.

“Anyone with information can call 101, quoting incident 0710 of Friday, September 23.”
