Partick Thistle head chef Jamie Clark jailed after racially abusing doorman at Horseshoe Bar in GlasgowSNS Group

A head chef at a Scottish football club who racially abused a doorman has been jailed for eight months.

Jamie Clark, 33, hurled the remarks at a fellow patron at Glasgow city centre’s Horseshoe Bar on May 5, 2023.

Court papers state that Clark – who was employed as a freelance chef at Championship outfit Partick Thistle – acted in a racially aggravated manner which was intended to cause the victim alarm and distress.

Clark, of Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire, swore at him as well as made racial remarks towards him around 8pm.

Clark went on to behave in a threatening or abusive manner at the bar.

The charge says that Clark shouted, swore and struck his head against the interior of a police vehicle.

He also made offensive and threatening remarks to police officers.

This included mentions of violence and rape.

Clark pled guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the two charges.

It was revealed that Clark has 22 previous convictions between 2008 and 2023 which includes the possession of a handgun.

He also has 18 separate breaches of court orders as well as a prior conviction for driving while disqualified.

Paul Sutherland, defending, told the court: “He is currently working as Partick Thistle’s head chef.

“His behaviour has escalated due to alcohol – he has had previous issues with alcohol.

“He is a man that when sober, he is employed and able to make credible decisions not withstanding there was no responsible decision making on the night in question.

“His conduct was reprehensible.”

Sheriff Mark McGuire stated that Clark’s actions were “disgraceful” and “abhorrent.”

Clark’s mother – who was in the public gallery – stated to the sheriff that his alcohol problems stemmed from a car accident that he was involved in where he lost his brother.

A spokesman for Partick Thistle said Clark had been appointed through an outside agency but their agreement had been terminated following his conviction after he failed to disclose details of the case.

They added: “Partick Thistle outsources its catering and through this arrangement our catering agency had engaged with Jamie Clark as a freelance chef to provide some catering support for the club starting as recently as last week.

“Indeed, Jamie Clark had only worked at the stadium a handful of times before that arrangement came to an end today. Neither the club nor the agency had any knowledge of this case until today.

“Partick Thistle is proud to be a club for all and takes a zero tolerance approach to any form of discrimination. We have consistently supported and will continue to support campaigns around this subject matter, including ‘Show Racism The Red Card’.”
