Detectives are appealing for help after a man was seriously assaulted by two people in Paisley.
Police said the incident happened just after 5pm on Saturday to a 55-year-old man who was walking on Causeyside Street near Forbes Place when two men started shouting in his direction.
They followed him onto Marshalls Lane where he was seriously assaulted.
Police and medical staff attended and the man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where staff described his condition as serious.
Detective inspector Neil Martin said: “Our enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances and gather more information on the two men responsible for this violent attack.
“The town centre would have been busy at the time of this assault. I urge any witnesses or anyone with information that may assist our investigation to contact us as soon as possible.”
