The conduct of a Lanarkshire priest is being “addressed” by the Bishop of Motherwell after a video of the incident was shared online.
Father James Grant was filmed calling the woman “evil” and an “ignoramus” after she arrived late to mass at St Xavier’s chapel at Carfin Grotto last month.
The priest can be seen approaching the woman telling her “mass starts at 9am, you are consistently late for mass”.
He goes on to say “you are just pure rude and ignorant, but you are an ignoramus of a woman.”
Commenting on the fact the woman is recording, he says he “looks forward to seeing it on YouTube” before calling her a “silly, evil woman” and pointing his finger in her face.
He then remarks to the woman “who are you going to show that to? You clown”.
As she attempts to walk into the building he slaps her away telling her to “get out” before holding the door open for another woman and child.
The incident has been brought to the attention of the Bishop of Motherwell.
A spokesperson for the Catholic Bishops Conference of Scotland said: “Bishop Toal of Motherwell is aware of the incident and addressing it.”
