A man is in hospital with serious injuries to his face and head after police said he was attacked by a group of five teenagers.
The 40-year-old was allegedly assaulted on Neilston Road, Paisley, at around 9.30pm on Friday near Lapsley Avenue.
He was rushed to the Royal Alexandra Hospital following the incident.
The five male suspects, in their late teens, are believed to have been part of a larger group of both male and female youths who were in the area.
Police said they ran off in the direction of the town centre after the incident.
They are all described as white, with the first suspect having close shaved hair and wearing a blue polo shirt, grey hoodie and dark shorts.
The second is described as tall with short dark hair. He was wearing a grey tracksuit top with a hood, dark trousers and dark trainers.
The third had a shaved head, and was wearing a white hoodie with white trousers.
A fourth male had short dark hair, was wearing a red top and black shorts.
The fifth suspect also had short dark hair, was wearing a red t-shirt, black shorts and white trainers.
Detective constable Martyn Renfrew said: “I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time who witnessed the assault or saw any unusual activity to please get in touch.
“If any nearby residents have CCTV footage or passing motorists have a dash-cam, please check back and see if there is any footage that could assist our investigation.”
